I see you have embraced Phi as a concept of cyclical time. That graphic was fantastic. Well done man.
There is a wrench in the AGI thing that I think of as cascading ECC failure. ECC is already expensive and technically not perfect at the bit level. At the AGI level I haven’t seen anyone solve this problem. Might be worth looking into.
I’m more curious how VR affects Balaji’s theory of network states. Do they actually take off or is apathy so apart of consuming in 3D that human unity and organization at any level becomes undesirable?
Who cares about VR experience in an apartment if you can’t hear the speaker phone only tenant next door or smell the cat piss stained carpet? Is VR actually a form of sensory deprivation as it transports one sense at the expense of all others? Is VR maturity going to include audio and touch? possible. But aren’t we no where near taste and smell?
More stream of conscious comments but fitting for a logloglog. Always enjoy readying your thoughts. Let’s catch up soon.
- Damn, as a Greek, I'm embarrassed to say I didn't know the golden spiral or the Fibonacci sequence was known as "Phi." Thanks for the level up.
- Say more about ECC faiulre... what is that?
- Balaji mentions AR/VR in The Network State. My take is that AR/VR is most useful when it's connecting people across distance (co-presence).
- I think sight & sound are our two dominant sense; and while it might never capture taste or smell, the key think is the spatial dimension... think of the role the Internet plays, and that's all through flat abstract representations; I think of this as an abstraction that more closely resembles and overlays into our base reality.
ECC = error correcting code. No chipset is perfect. Last thing you want is a bit to inadvertently flip and assumptions acted upon bad data.
In regard to VR and the network state, is there a community today that is built around VR? When do we anticipate even a sizable minority adopting VR as its primary interaction space?

Nice spiral. Helpful as I saw the earlier prototype. If only there was a tool that could take a timeline and spiral it up like that. History rhymes, not repeats. Maybe that app will be the new Procreate animation one
Holy moly, good idea. Just plugged this into GPT4 (the advanced analytics version). I asked it this: "Can you create a spiral graph of history featuring the Phi / golden ration shape? It should start in 1492, and spiral out to 2100. There's a full revolution every 80 years, and each quadrant is 20 years." It worked. Now it's plotting events within it too...
...i do feel like vr/ar is inevitable and once we fix the fit/weight etc. it may even be a viable enjoyable experience...that said i do think the competing real reality industry will be quite interesting as well...with everyone so invested in alternative realities the power of being mindful and detached will be much more niche, useful and likely valuable...you were ahead of your time, but there is still time?...

Thanks. Glad it sparked that. Ofc in hindsight ask gpt as default nowadays.
